2021 business plan

Most of us have been ready to kick 2020 to the curb since about mid-March, but now that this challenging year is finally coming to a close, the question of whether or not you’re prepared for what’s next is rising to the surface. It’s time to look yourself in the mirror and decide: are you also ready to rock your business in 2021?

Entrepreneurs are resilient, and many of the ones I know are attesting to being ready to hit the ground running at the start of the new year with their business. In fact, a recent survey revealed that 83% of small business owners believe their business will perform better in 2021 than in 2020. (Here’s hoping!)

But how do you know if you’re really ready to rock and roll? After all, it takes more than just a gung ho attitude and stream of pithy social media posts to sustain growth in your business.

Well, here are 7 Signs You’re Ready to Rock Your Business in 2021.

#1: Rock Your Business with a 90 Day Plan

All right, so the word “plan” has the exact opposite of a sexy rock-and-roll connotation, but if you’re ready to rock your business in a real way next year, you have to know where you’re headed and how you’re going to get there.

90-day plans are the perfect place to start. (A six-month plan is even better!) 

When you create your 90-day plan for Q1 of 2021, be sure to begin by reflecting back on the past 90 days as well. You may not have accomplished everything you wanted in 2020, but there are certainly golden nuggets of information and ideas you can take away from this year.

A solid 90-day plan should include long- and short-term goals, projects, launches, personal development strategies, team development strategies, and a way to track your progress.

#2: 2021 Requires a Killer Team

Speaking of team development strategies, your amazing team is a key part of rocking your business in 2021. A clear sign you’re ready for growth in the new year is a solid team of rockstars in your corner.

Your people understand where you are headed and what you’re about, and they are on board for the growth ahead. In fact, depending on your timeline and goals for growth, you also need to have a plan in place for adding even more rockstar team members to the fold.

The people you choose to surround yourself with in your business are absolutely indicative of whether you’re prepared for the next level. 

#3: The Right Mindset is Everything!

Another sign you’re ready to rock your business in the new year is your mindset. Your head has to be in the game to achieve all of your goals. And don’t forget about your heart.  That is important too.

While this may sound like an invitation to push yourself even harder between now and January 1st, protecting and building up your mindset is often achieved by giving yourself a break. You may not be in a place to completely unplug from your business for the entire holiday season, but part of your Q4 plans need to include rest and recharge. You are not meant to function firing on all cylinders 24/7.

#4: Rock Your Business with Clearly Identified SWOT

When it comes to your business, SWOT is an acronym for your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In order to rock your business in 2021, you need to have clearly identified all four of these areas.

The strengths of your businesses are the places where you excel and where you stand apart from the competition. They also include your resources. Your personal strengths tell you what skills you can rely on as a leader and can help guide you as to what parts of your business need to remain “on your plate.”

Contrastingly, your personal weaknesses as a leader reveal areas where you need to grow and aspects of your business that may be better suited to delegating to a current (or new) team member. Your company’s weaknesses can include a lack of resources and things your competitors do better than you.

Opportunities for your business could be an underserved market, a lack of competition in certain niches, or a growing need for what you have to offer your tribe. Meanwhile, threats to your business may be emerging competitors, a changing market, or a negative shift in customer or client relationships.

The most important thing in all of these areas is to have transparency with yourself and your team. You can’t rock your future if you aren’t honest about your present.

#5: Your Company Values Are a Key to Your Success

Outlining the mission and values of your business is a crucial step for any entrepreneur or small business owner. Equally important (especially when it comes to growth) is making sure that these values are fully aligned in every area of your business.

You may highly value communication, but if you don’t have clear systems and channels of communication established between you and your team (or between you and your clients), this value isn’t fully aligned and therefore isn’t serving your business to its fullest capacity. 

#6: Rock Your Business with Systems

If you want to grow, you have to have a system in place that allows you to do so. Growth almost never happens by accident, and it certainly can’t be sustained without a method behind the madness.

The reason that big businesses are able to operate without the business owner having a hand in everything is because there are processes and systems in place. As a small business owner, your systems don’t have to be huge or complicated, but having something concrete in writing to share with your team is crucial. 

If you’ve got a system, you’re ready to rock!

#7: Having Support is Crucial

Lastly, but certainly not least, you know you’re ready to ROCK your business in 2021 if you have a mastermind, mentor, or coach lined up and in your corner. 

Personally, I’ve always grown the most when I have someone else who’s further along than me in their own business, guiding me and giving me a much needed outside perspective.
