You’re a heart-centered entrepreneur. And you know how important it is to stay connected to your heart. While serving your clients, marketing your services, or talking to prospects, when your heart isn’t into “it,” you are not shining your best light. People will notice your energy, even if they only feel it subconsciously. Something will feel “off” with you.
So often in business, we are in our heads. Our egos threaten to take over. Our ego thinks it has all the answers. It is competitive and analytical. It is judging and blaming, wreaking havoc on our peace of mind. It is protecting us, even when we don’t need to be protected. It often blocks our connection to our hearts.
Your heart knows when it isn’t into something, if you stop long enough to pay attention.
What is “it” that your heart isn’t into? It could be…
- A client
- A team member or business partner
- A particular task
- A decision
- A personal matter
- A business direction (yes, sometimes we are not into our business)
- A workspace
- A particular area of your life
Do you resonate with any of these? Do you feel completely connected to your heart in every aspect of your life and business? Not sure? Look for these signs.
6 Signs Your Heart is Disconnected
Energy is Low
When your energy is low, something is draining you. Sometimes it’s physical exhaustion but more often than not, it’s mental fatigue. When you are connected to your heart, it stimulates passion and increases your energy. So pay attention to when your energy drops and you start feeling dread.
Mood is Down
When our hearts aren’t into something, our mood drops. We may feel anxious or depressed. It will be difficult to motivate yourself to do the things you normally love. You may stay in bed too long, procrastinate, engage in destructive habits, or find yourself overly emotional and unbalanced.
Confidence is Zapped
For me, when something isn’t working in my life, my self-esteem takes a hit. I start doubting myself, beating myself up, and suffering from imposter syndrome. It’s a horrible place to be in. Reconnecting to my heart and truly honoring my truth goes a long way to boosting my confidence.
Focus is Limited
Do you find yourself doing exactly the opposite of what you’re supposed to be doing? Maybe you’re avoiding a conversation, a task, your health, a person. When our hearts are disconnected, we spend a lot of time in our thoughts. We distract ourselves with TV, social media, and any other numbing activity that keeps us away from our hearts.
Mindset is Fixed
According to Lee McCormick, co-author of The Heart Reconnection Guidebook, “Our heart and mind are meant to work together. When we are detached from our heart, the mind resists change. The mind identifies with our beliefs, and without the guidance of the heart, it becomes fearful and defensive, and when it is questioned, it goes into lock-down. Change originates in the heart, and the heart literally teaches the mind.”
Stress is High
How can you possibly feel peace if you have all these heart matters that need to be addressed? When your heart is disconnected, you will find yourself frazzled, easily annoyed, and stressed out. Things that you normally handle with ease will suddenly frustrate you and send you over the edge. Chances are you won’t be sleeping very well either.
7 Steps to Fix Your Heart Connection
Step 1: Create Daily Space for Quiet Reflection
In this all too busy world we live in as entrepreneurs, it can be difficult to prioritize quiet space. But there is no other way to connect with your heart than to slow down, quiet your mind, and allow your heart to speak.
Step 2: Take an Inventory of Your Disconnects
Ask yourself what your heart is not into anymore. Is it a person? A business direction or decision? Is it an activity or task? Is it a mindset? Make a list of everything that is draining you, affecting your mood, confidence, and focus.
Step 3: Have a Brutally Honest Conversation with Yourself
What’s not working and why? Is it fixable? How much of the disconnect has to do with you? Be honest about your contribution. Be willing to look honestly at yourself and stay away from blaming others. It’s your heart, after all.
Step 4: Pick a Heart Matter to Focus on First
We normally have more than one area in our lives that we have disconnected our hearts from. Which area is the highest priority for you? It is too overwhelming to try and solve all our heart disconnects at the same time. Ask yourself if NOW is the right time or if this matter needs to be tabled. Focus and prioritize so you can truly resolve the matter.
Step 5: Try on Different Perspectives
As mentioned above, change requires our hearts to work with our minds. If we have a fixed mindset, we aren’t allowing ourselves to see the many different perspectives that are available to us. We need our hearts for that. Come from a place of love and ask yourself if your perspective needs to change. Can other perspectives shift you and reconnect your heart?
Step 6: Work to Resolve the Heart Disconnect
Before you throw in the towel and immediately eliminate what’s causing the disconnect, it’s important to see if you can resolve the issue. Can you make a different business decision that is more aligned with your heart? Is it possible to coach and empower a team member that is making you crazy? Can you have a heart-to-heart conversation with a client or set better boundaries? There are ways to get back on track. And it normally requires a mindset shift or a resolution that resonates with you at a heart level. Get serious about change.
Step 7: Remove the “It” that No Longer Resonates with Your Heart
Only after you have truly exhausted your efforts to bring about change, can you peacefully and confidently remove the heart disconnect from your life. It may be time to fire a client or team member that is never going to change. You might have to delegate the tasks and business activities that continue to drag you down. It’s entirely possible that you will need to remove a belief system that is no longer working. Change often means goodbye. And goodbyes can be healthy and energizing.
I truly hope my words of wisdom, that come from personal experience, resonate with your heart. Life is too short. Lead your life and business where your heart is just as important, if not more, than your mind.
